Daniel Kahneman, the Nobel Prize-winning psychologist who pioneered theories in behavioral economics, has died. He was 90. He died ‘peacefully’ on Wednesday, March 27 according to a release from Princeton University, whose faculty he had joined in 1993. His cause of death was not provided by the university. Kahneman wrote the best-selling book Thinking, Fast and Slow, and helped debunk the notion that people’s behavior is driven by rational decision-making, and instead is often based on instinct. “Danny was a giant in the field,” Eldar Shafir, a former colleague at Princeton University said in the release. “Many areas in the social sciences simply have not been the same since he arrived on the scene. He will be greatly missed.” Kahneman was born in Tel Aviv in 1934, but his French parents returned home to Paris when he was three months old. Six years later, as Kahneman was finishing first grade, the Nazis invaded France, and his family was forced to wear the yellow star that marked Jews for mass deportations to concentration camps. His father, a research chemist, was taken away but then released and the family escaped to unoccupied France and spent the rest of the war in hiding. His father died in 1944, and 12-year-old Kahneman moved to British-ruled Palestine with his mother two years later, just before the creation of the state of Israel. In 2002, six years after Tversky’s death, Kahneman won the Nobel Prize in Economics for their models of how intuitive reasoning is flawed in predictable ways. Kahneman integrated insights from psychology into economics, especially concerning human judgment and decision-making under uncertainty, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in its citation at the time.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on Friday met with President Muhammadu Buhari over the nationwide strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ngige was accompanied by the Ministers of State Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo as well as the minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.

Some of the issues raised by the NARD President, Dr Aliyu Sokomba, include non-payment of special allowances for the resident doctors, and the lack of protective equipment for members of the union treating COVID-19 patients.
Recall that meetings between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, and the leadership of the Resident Doctors, days ago ended in a deadlock after hours of deliberation.

“On 6/11/19 the bailiff of the federal high court wanted to serve the reproduction warrants issued by the court on the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS). But the SSS asked the Bailiff to call back at 10.00 am on 7/11/19. The bailiff did and was able to serve the reproduction warrants on the DG of the SSS,” he said.“Upon acknowledging the service of the reproduction warrants the SSS assured the bailiff and five lawyers from the defence team that our clients would be released yesterday. But the SSS decided not to release our clients to our lawyers who waited in vain in the agency’s headquarters for not less than 4 hours.“When Sowore said that he would not make a statement without first consulting with me the SSS management called me on phone on 6/8/19. Assuming the SSS had wanted to release our clients since yesterday the management would have contacted me.“It is pertinent to point out that the meaning of reproduction warrant issued by a trial court is that the defendants be produced for the purpose of releasing them having met their bail conditions. In the instant case, the
federal high court did not order the SSS to hand over Messrs Sowore and Bakare to any person but to produce them for the purpose of releasing them having met the suffocating bail conditions imposed on them by the trial court.“Even though the SSS disobeyed the order of the Honourable Justice Taiwo for the release of Mr. Sowore on 24/9/19 it has turned round to announce its readiness to comply with the order of the Honourable Justice Ifeoma Ojukwu for the release of Sowore and Bakare from illegal custody.”
